"Mira vaquero. Se pone el sol. Buen caballero viajando con Dios. Mira vaquero. No miramos atras. Nos vamos al campo. Una vez mas, una vez mas"
Lots of totally excellent music was that was newly released or new too me. I've placed the songs in order of importance (based on my very subjective opinion) or how much I like a song.
I am totally into this new James McMurtyalbum. This is his ~10th album, but he is a totally new discovery for me. I am so into the new album, I really haven't had time to explore his older stuff. I am excited to check him out more. The quote that leads off this post is from this album; it's such a quote-worthy album there are so many more quotes I could have pulled.
"In a way-back corner of a cross-town bus. We were hidin' out under my hat. Cashin' in on a thirty year crush. You can't be young and do that. You can't be young and do that"
Billie Eilish'snew album is just excellent. She is such a talented young artist. I've already shared "Happier Than Ever." And there is so much more. "Male Fantasy" is another fantastic one.
"Home alone, trying not to eat. Distract myself with pornography. I hate the way she looks at me. I can't stand the dialogue, she would never be. That satisfied, it's a male fantasy. I'm going back to therapy."
Another young artist's album that I love, Sir Chloe, is super raw and honest. I've included "Michelle" and "Sedona" at the top of the list, yet the entire album should really be included. For sure, "Michelle, Michelle. You are a monster from Hell. Michelle, Michelle," is an excellent chorus. But, I am going with:
"I found my nicotine, amphetamine. The only thing that's good to me. My nicotine, amphetamine. I look at you and I can't breathe."
I am also loving Dave. He is an english rapper/ hip hop artist. Realness. Emo.
"I tell my fans we're all alone in this together. You can trust me. All the shit you been feelin', you're feelin' with me. We all the took the wrong turns in different streets. We all cry the same tears on different cheeks."
Some other great songs to check out on this list:
California - CHVRCHES. Great song about moving to California and one of my favorite lyrics of the year: "No one ever tells ya. There's freedom in failure."
Orange - Pinegrove. I think it's about climate change. But it's beautiful. "Today the sky is orange. And you and I know why."
Rumors - Lizzo and Cardi B. I have unsuccessfully tried to get into Cardi B. I do on this song. "All the rumors are true, yeah. What ya heard, that's true, yeah. I fuck him and you, yeah. If you believe I do that."
Cocaine Country Dancing - Paul Cauthen. I missed this dude live. This is a fun little country song. "It's a quarter to one, been looking for fun. It's a quarter to two, what you wanna do? It's a quarter to three, you know what I need. It's a quarter to four, do we have anymore?"
Pamphlets - Squid. I love the screaming. And, a little talking heads? "Pamphlets through my door and pamphlets on my floor. Open wide, we've got everything, everything that you like."
Atone - Jerry Cantrell. Thanks to Lon Copper for the rec here. I didn't know he was still doing music. If you like old school Alice in Chains, or the darker parts of 90s grunge, you'll dig this song.
"Hounded by a feeling that I've known. Following everywhere I go."
In the Court of the Dragon - Trivium. I've been seeking some metal and the guru delivered with this killer track. This just melts your face immediately. "Nightmare past. Haunting him. Bides his time. Sinks into the sea."
So much goodness in here. Check it out.
